While we cherish the creative process at Harris Made, there is nothing as thrilling as delivering a final, finished special recognition gift to our very special clients.

Joanna Riester of Lurie Children's Hospital had us deliver their pashminas and ties, with designs inspired by iconography developed for their campaign, For Every Child, in time to accompany the RSVP to the kick-off event.

“How Harris Made is made”, a 3-part series showcasing our process of bespoke recognition gift design. Part 2.

Isn’t it energizing watching an idea blossom from sketch to reality?

It’s one of my favorite aspects of the design process at Harris Made.

In Part 1, I outlined how we worked with Lurie Children's Hospital to celebrate the kick-off of their capital campaign. While talking with the team, I sketched out a design using their logo of a pair of hands shaped to be holding a heart – to express the individual promise to each and every child.

The creative journey can be fascinating, don’t you think?

I start by meeting with the clients, opening my sketchbook and opening my ears. Listening to them tell their story is key to delivering an exceptionally personalized design.

What we mean when we say “bespoke” at Harris Made.

Posted by Emma Harris on Aug 14, 2019 8:15:00 AM

Bespoke is an interesting word, don’t you think?

Dating back to 1583 in the Oxford English Dictionary, the original definition is “to speak for, commission and arrange for goods”. Perhaps it’s most commonly known in use with made-to-order tailored suits - the bespoke suits of Savile Row, London.

Well, at Harris Made, we do have a specific interpretation of what we mean when we say “bespoke”.

Working hand-in-hand with our clients, not only do we deliver a beautiful gift with a provenance unique to their institution, we further personalize it by weaving in a bespoke made-to-order design that has substantial meaning for the institution and their donors.

The Leach Teaching Gardens at Texas A&M is the result of a significant capital campaign. To reflect the unique contribution and impact that generous support provides, we leveraged the individual designs of 22 gardens that make up the larger garden as a pattern repeat and design motif.

Behind the Design: 100 Years New

Posted by Emma Harris on Jul 23, 2019 8:15:00 AM

Time flies for all of us.

100 years certainly did for The New School.

When they approached us to help celebrate their Centennial, there was a desire to balance the progressive and forward-looking DNA of the school with a gift that captured their story and history adequately.

Custom donor gifts for Lurie Children's Hospital

Posted by Emma Harris on Jul 11, 2018 12:08:00 PM

We know how challenging it is to find the perfect gift for individuals who can afford anything. Working in collaboration with our clients we created this guide and thought we would share a copy: 10 Considerations When Designing the Perfect Gift.

Perhaps you will be inspired by this recent project that we completed for Lurie Children's Hospital. Joanna Riester contacted me to create a unique pashmina and silk tie to help celebrate top donors during their campaign kick-off event last month and here is a sneak peek of the project.

Client highlight: University of Chicago

Posted by Emma Harris on May 22, 2018 9:26:59 AM

I was excited when Emily Abrahamson, University of Chicago, asked me to design a custom handmade silk scarf and tie from the ancient mosaic Mesopotamian lion held in The Oriental Institute to help celebrate top donors supporting their $5B capital campaign. This colorful striding lion, its mouth opened in a threatening roar, once decorated a side of the ‘Processional Way’ in ancient Babylon. Gifts were presented in a University of Chicago branded gift box and came with a printed card to reinforce their campaign mission and provenance of their unique and thoughtful gift.

Custom donor gifts for Children's National hospital

Posted by Emma Harris on May 17, 2018 12:14:00 PM

When Larysa Gradeck, Children’s National Hospital, approached me she asked if I could design special recognition gifts to commemorate the opening of their Bunny Mellon Healing Garden, a place for children receiving care to enjoy fresh air, the outdoors and inspiring view of the nation’s capital. I took design inspiration from an architectural rendering of a labyrinth within the project blueprint to design a custom handmade silk scarf and tie.

Custom donor gifts for Ethel Walker School

Posted by Emma Harris on Apr 5, 2018 12:18:00 PM

When Marion Paterson from The Ethel Walker School approached me she asked if I could design special recognition gifts that were unique to the school and would resonate on a personal level with their best donors and alumnae. With this in mind, I designed a custom cashmere pashmina inspired by the geometric design of their chapel floor and a silk scarf in school colors based on their original campus map.
